I use 4.2X a lot.and in battles 64X with slowdown during actual fighting. Managing time seems to be a feature in PS. You feel more immediate action, faster results, less need to manage time. SR2 is more colorful and RTS-styled.and its pace works well. UFNV is active with PS for sure, and I appreciate him being willing to take all the feedback and criticism as well as he has. There is an expansion in the works, and this dev is active. SR2's economy is also different, but interesting as a quick and easy mini-management game of sorts.īoth are fun and should be played imho.SR2 has more polish at this point, but it should having been out for a year. Where SR2 has a capitol ship that you add support to in the form of smaller ships. Mixing your larger ships and fighters, creating formations, using various tactics to minimize loss and maximize destruction is addictive. I will say that battle-wise, while I have had far larger battles in SR2, I find the tactical RTS battles in PS to be more fun. SR2 has a much more in-depth ship design element, I do find PS's ship design to be easier and funner to do.though again take my experience with a grain of salt. I enjoy both and consider myself still new to both. Something that SR2 doesn't really do for me. I will say I do enjoy Polaris, it feels fresh even though it isn't.it keeps me going a little further to get that carrier built, research that next weapon for the frigate, etc. I do enjoy SR2 though, but I haven't spent enough time designing ships or really doing more than starting and getting to about mid-game where the AI starts to dominate me lol. I'm an RTS fan at heart, but I also enjoy some 4X anted I always want a more complicated game than my more leisurely time allows for learning. I own both, and I'm enjoying Polaris so far.
Star ruler 2 manual Patch#
As someone who likely has one of the highest number of hours spent on polaris sector since release, I'd say go for Star ruler 2 and wait for a patch or two to try out polaris. Its still an enjoyable game but for me the replayability is heavily hampered once you learn the optimal strategies within a few playthroughs. Lowering the map size actually makes this issue worse, as you can plan as a human to take certain chokepoints, essentially giving you 3x the control of even the hardest AIs. There is no reason to stop expanding due to the high density of terran/ocean planets. The optimal strategy usually is to just expand until you reach an AI's borders and then expand in another direction. That means you can take -3 points at race creation and you will have more than enough pop for your empire permanently due to how growth works.Ĭolonizable planets are way too common with no way to adjust their numbers.
Polaris Sector has some balance issues with release that need to be tuned.Īn example would be population growth, the base value is just too high.
